Our company is committed to providing a smooth project for decision-makers such as school officials, recreation directors and landscape architects. We offer guidance on choosing rubber mulch in bulk, from loose materials to bonded surfacing. Partner with us for exceptional products, installation and support.

Loose vs. Bonded Rubber Mulch

No Fault Surfaces is a trusted provider of rubber mulch for playgrounds. Made with 100% recycled tire rubber, our products are environmentally sustainable. The nontoxic materials don’t create dust, decompose or rot over time.

Whether you choose loose or bonded mulch, our surfacing complies with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The rubber offers an ideal material for many commercial play spaces.

We can provide specific depths to meet the protection standards of critical fall heights in play areas. The installations work well for walkways and look visually pleasing with various landscapes. When you partner with us, our professionals can answer your questions and recommend surfacing products that meet your specific needs.

Loose Mulch

Achieve a natural, wood-like appearance with loose rubber mulch. Our mulch is organically colored with ultraviolet (UV) protectors to resist fading with sunlight exposure. We offer vibrant hues, from Terra Cotta and Dark Brown to Black and Green.

Bonded Mulch

Enjoy the ultimate convenience with bonded rubber mulch. Made with a single pour of shredded mulch and a traditional polyurethane adhesive binder, our surfacing requires minimal maintenance. The rubber is organically blended and tested for color retention in outdoor areas.

Rubber Mulch Surfacing Installations

At No Fault Surfaces, we provide playground surfacing installations for outdoor play areas nationwide. Our team arrives with all the materials needed for preparation and installation to make the process run as smoothly as possible. We also wear safety gear, such as gloves and knee pads, to protect ourselves while installing the surfacing.

Loose Mulch Installations

To install your loose mulch, we follow preparation methods to clear and level the play area. We lay a durable landscape barrier down to keep the mulch separate from the underlying soil.

After creating borders to contain the mulch in a desired location, our team pours the material and spreads it manually using a rake or shovel. We create a specific, consistent depth to meet fall height safety standards. A final rake provides a smooth, finished surface.

Routine maintenance is required to rake the mulch back into place, especially in high-traffic areas. Follow our product specifications for cleaning recommendations to avoid dust buildup.

Bonded Mulch Installations

To install bonded mulch, our professionals use a poured-in-place surfacing method. Once we arrive at your location, we’ll set up a sub-base that’s right for your play area. Depending on the sub-base you choose, we may need to wait for the curing time before proceeding to the next phase.

We mix and install an impact layer, which provides the most cushioning and requires a minimum of 24 hours to cure. Our highly skilled team blends recycled rubber with a polyurethane binder on-site, then hand-trowels the mixture into place. Once the final layer is finished, the materials will need to cure and dry for up to 72 hours.

Follow our recommended guidelines to maintain the surface’s ideal appearance over time. We provide detailed instructions for general cleaning, removing loose debris and isolating stains.

FAQs

When evaluating rubber versus wood materials, rubber is generally considered a better option for playground mulch. It offers:

  • Enhanced safety: Rubber offers high shock absorption with a cushioning effect.
  • Better durability: The material doesn’t easily break down or decompose over time.
  • Minimal maintenance: The mulch surfacing doesn’t require frequent refreshing or replacement.
  • Customization options: The mulch is available in various colors, allowing you to personalize the look of a play space.

Rubber surfacing stays in place when it rains. Water drains through the mulch and doesn’t decompose like organic mulch, which can absorb water and get carried away. Rubber is a non-absorbent material that doesn’t promote mold or fungus growth, which can be an issue with wet organic mulches.

Rubber doesn’t provide a food source or suitable nesting material for wood-destroying insects, such as carpenter ants or termites. As a result, rubber surfacing can make an area less attractive to those pests.
